The setup prompt (paste this first, every session)
You're helping a [grade level] [subject] teacher. Keep everything you produce classroom-ready: clear language, realistic timing, no fluff. Ask me one clarifying question if a request is ambiguous; otherwise just draft.

1. Lesson planning
The full lesson:
Create a [class length] lesson plan on [topic] for my [grade/subject] class, aligned to [specific standard]. Structure: hook (5 min), direct instruction (10), guided practice (15), independent practice (10), exit ticket (5). For each segment give me exactly what I say/do and what students do. Include 3 discussion questions at different depths and one common misconception to address head-on.
The unit version: swap in "Create a [X]-day unit plan" and add "end with a one-paragraph summative assessment idea per week."
The emergency sub plan (the one that saves an actual sick day):
Write a sub plan for my [grade/subject] class on [topic we're mid-way through]. Assume the sub has no subject expertise. Include: a do-now that needs zero explanation, a 25-minute independent or paired activity with printed-material instructions, an early-finisher task, and a note format for the sub to report back. Tone: friendly, idiot-proof, everything numbered.
2. Differentiation (the biggest time-saver on this page)
Here is a text/activity I'm using: [paste it]. The "label why each distractor is tempting" clause is the quality trick — it forces real distractors instead of two obvious throwaways. (Verify the key yourself; that's the 20% you keep.)
Rubric builder:
Build a rubric for [assignment] in [grade/subject]. Criteria: [list yours, or "propose 4"]. Four levels with concrete, observable descriptors — no vague words like "good" or "some." Write it in student-facing language, then give me a 2-sentence version I can read aloud when assigning it.
4. Feedback and grading comments
I'll paste student work (no names). For each piece, write feedback in my voice — warm, specific, growth-oriented — using this structure: one genuine strength with the exact line/moment named, one priority fix explained simply with a model of what better looks like, one next step the student can do in under 10 minutes. Reading level: [grade]. Length: 3–4 sentences. Never start two comments with the same phrase.
That last constraint kills the "the AI wrote these" tell. For a stack of 30, add: "Vary sentence openers and keep a list of which strengths you've already used so the set feels individually written."
5. Parent communication
The tricky email:
Draft an email to a parent about [situation: missing work / a behavior pattern / a grade drop — described generically]. Tone: warm, factual, zero blame, partnership-focused. Structure: one positive and true observation about the student, the concern with 1–2 specific examples, what I'm doing in class, one concrete way they can help at home, and an invitation to talk. Under 180 words. No education jargon.
The positive one nobody sends enough: "Draft a 3-sentence positive note home about a student who [did something worth naming]. Make it specific enough that the parent knows it's real."
The newsletter: "Turn these bullet points into a parent newsletter section: [paste]. Skimmable, friendly, under 150 words, with dates bolded."
6. Classroom routines and admin
- Bell ringers: "Generate 10 do-now prompts for [topic/unit], each answerable in 4 minutes, mixing retrieval of last week's content with a hook for today's."
- Exit tickets: "Write 5 exit-ticket questions for today's lesson on [topic]: 3 checking the objective, 1 misconception check, 1 'muddiest point' reflection."

Is using ChatGPT for lesson planning cheating? Planning has always been built on borrowed material — textbooks, Teachers Pay Teachers, the veteran next door.
